Student arrested for bringing bomb to school

JACKSON, Wyo. About 60 percent of Jackson High School's 650 students were absent Friday after one was arrested on suspicion of bringing a bomb to school Thursday.
Police said they found a small metal device with a fuse in the backpack of a 17-year-old boy, whose identity was withheld.
The boy was arrested about 4 p.m. Thursday and charged with possessing a "suspected improvised explosive device," said a police spokeswoman.
Two similar devices were removed without incident from the student's residence.
Rumors circulated Thursday that the student was threatening to shoot anyone who did not wear an armband, according to the spokeswoman.
Principal Lee Kenney said the student approached him just before lunch and explained the armbands were "in memory" of the students who were killed.
Later in the day, Kenney and a Jackson police officer stationed in the school saw the boy again, this time with a backpack. They asked the boy if they could look inside the backpack and he consented.
Teton County Sheriff's Capt. Leland Christensen described what they found as "a small, hand-held device with metal skin and a fuse."
Jackson High School was later thoroughly searched with assistance of Idaho Falls, Idaho, officers and police dogs, and no other devices were found, the spokeswoman said.
"The exact nature of the suspected explosive devices has not yet been determined. Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms will examine the devices further," she said.
